Rabbi Yitzchak Shmuel Ackerman, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, is the former Director of Parent Mentoring and creator of The KESHER School Program for Agudath Israel of America’s Project YES.
Rabbi Ackerman consults with Hanhala, Rebbeim, and teachers to develop both school-wide and classroom-specific policies to help children succeed academically, behaviorally, and socially. He guides educators in addressing problem behaviors by developing incentive and consequence systems for classes and individuals. He helps teachers coordinate services with school psychologists, guidance counselors, and resource room personnel.
He created the “Confident and Relaxed Teachers” Workshop, addressing classroom management skills, effective communication with parents, and team building with colleagues.
Rabbi Ackerman provides short and long term school-based interventions for at-risk children, adolescents, and teens in individual treatment and together with their families.
Rabbi Ackerman guides educators in connecting with children, forming relationships that foster respect, cooperation, and learning.
His articles have appeared in Binah Magazine and Mishpacha Family First, and he writes a weekly column which appears in The Flatbush Jewish Journal, The Front Page, and The Jewish Connection.
